The Starter Kit Models

The Starter Kit does not include RCX bricks or towers, but you do get enough equipment to build four models plus an extra model from the parts left over. The four models are the bug (we called it the fly), the car, the gadget and the house. My year 4 class worked in six groups of four; four groups building a model from the starter kit and two groups working on their own burglar alarm and a police car, using bits from everywhere! The starter kit models took a long time to build, however the fly and the car did look very impressive.

Each model is built in stages, with programs at Pilot and Inventor Levels. The programs increase rapidly in complexity and teachers may prefer to leave the given Inventor Levels until their pupils are more experienced. I will be advising staff in my school to look at the Pilot Level programs, and then get the children to recreate them in Inventor Level. These programs could then be changed and / or extended. Once the teacher and the pupils are confident in using the Inventor Level, then is the time to examine the given programs from the Vault.
